Chinese Counterfeiters Hit Circuit Breakers
The counterfeit circuit breakers include Square D QO-series models 115, 120, 130, 160, 215, 230, 260, 1515, and 1520. Actual Square D circuit breakers have (a) the amp rating written on the handle in white paint on the front of the breaker; (b) on the side of the breaker, where wire terminal screw is located, the arc shoot opening should have squared corners with the bottom edge of the opening angled up; (c) the mounting clip should be yellow chromate with half of the top of the clip visible; and (d) the Square D insignia should be molded onto the breaker. If your Square D breaker does not match this description, it could be counterfeit.more..
GOES Eastern US SECTOR Infrared Image
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,December 5, 2006
Color enhanced imagery is a method meteorologists use to aid them with satellite interpretation. The colors enable a meteorologist to easily and quickly see features which are of special interest to them. Usually they look for high clouds or areas with a large amount of water vapor.
In an infrared (IR) image cold clouds are high clouds, so the colors typically highlight the colder regions. In a water vapor image, white areas indicate moisture and dark areas indicate little or no moisture, so the colors typically highlight areas with large amounts of moisture. more..

Dartmouth Researchers Find A Neural Signature Of Bilingualism Using Infrared Light To Study The Brain
Medical News Today, October 21, 2006
Dartmouth researchers have found areas in the brain that indicate bilingualism. The finding sheds new light on decades of debate about how the human brain's language centers may actually be enhanced when faced with two or more languages as opposed to only one. The study was presented at the Society for Neuroscience's annual meeting on October 14-18 in Atlanta, Ga. The researchers used an optical imaging technology called Near Infrared Spectroscopy (or NIRS) as a new "microscope" into the human brain's higher cognitive capacities, and they are among the first to take advantage of this technology in this way. NIRS has been used in the detection of, for example, breast tumors and heart blood flow. more..
State-of-the-art Medical Infrared Imaging System is Capable of Early Breast Cancer Detection
Earthtimes.org, October 17, 2006
...The Omnibodyscan will be capable of full body imaging utilizing state-of-the art infrared camera technology. It will incorporate some of the most advanced and sophisticated infrared electronics available anywhere in the industry. Infrared imaging systems are used by physicians worldwide in the identification of vascular thermal patterns in the breast that signal the early development of breast cancer. These vascular conditions, called angiogenesis, can show up as hot spots on thermograms years before they can be detected with a mammogram. Unlike mammography, there is no compression of the breasts between two plates, pain, discomfort or radiation with thermal imaging. Thermography is a physiological test that provides a different dimension of information and, used in conjunction with radiology, provides a higher capability of early detection.
Thermal imaging: cancer screening alternative
The Daily Times, October 7, 2006
Barbara Folsom hasn’t had a mammogram since she was in her 40s, and she vows she’ll never have one again. “I had a very bad experience with the mammogram,” Folsom said. “I was bruised, and it took a long time to heal.” A few years ago, the 64-year-old retired nurse discovered digital thermal imaging, which uses a heat-sensing camera to detect subtle physiological changes in the body. Folsom now uses it as her sole method of screening for breast cancer. She’s not alone. Several other women in the Kerrville area attended a screening at a local health store and affirmed their support for the method. “It’s not a substitute,” said Michelle Hart, owner of San Antonio-based DITI Imaging. “It’s to be used in conjunction.” more..
'Chinese Lantern' Technique Helps Track Clouds at Saturn
University of Arizona, October 5, 2006
Cassini scientists on the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) team led by the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory's Robert Brown have produced a stunning new view of Saturn. It shows Saturn's deep clouds silhouetted against the planet's warm, glowing interior. The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Media Relations Office released the image and the following image advisory today. A new image of Saturn demonstrates a technique that creates a 'Chinese lantern' effect, showing Saturn's deep clouds silhouetted against the planet’s warm, glowing interior. more..
